How Do I Reset My Breaker When It Has Tripped Off?
If your breaker has tripped, follow these simple steps to reset it safely:
Turn Off/Unplug Devices – Switch off or unplug any appliances or lights on the affected circuit to prevent a power surge.
Find Your Electrical Panel – Locate your home’s breaker box, usually found in a basement, garage, or utility area.
Identify the Tripped Breaker – Look for a breaker switch that is in the middle position or is not lined up with the others.
Reset the Breaker – Firmly push the switch all the way to the OFF position, then flip it back to ON until it clicks.
Restore Power – Check to see if power is restored to the affected area.
I'm Purchasing a Home and the Power Has Been Off for Over a Year. What Do I Do?
Before turning the power back on, hire a licensed electrician to inspect the electrical system for damage, deterioration, or safety hazards caused by the long period without power. The electrician can ensure everything is safe and up to code before the utility company restores service.
What is a GFCI Device or Breaker?
A GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) is a safety device that quickly shuts off power if it detects a ground fault or electrical leak, helping prevent electric shocks. GFCIs can be outlets or circuit breakers and are commonly used in areas with water, like kitchens and bathrooms.
What Areas of My House Should Be GFCI Protected?
GFCI protection is required in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, unfinished basements, laundry rooms, outdoors, and any area within 6 feet of a sink or water source.
What Are the Buttons on My GFCI Outlet for?
The buttons on your GFCI outlet are for testing ("Test") and resetting ("Reset") the outlet’s safety function. Press "Test" to check if the GFCI works, and "Reset" to restore power after a test or trip.
How Can I Tell When an Electrical Outlet is Not Safe?
An outlet is not safe if it’s warm, has burn marks, smells burnt, sparks, buzzes, or is loose. Stop using it and call an electrician.
There is a Humming Noise Coming From My Panel. What Does This Mean?

What is a Tamper-Resistant Receptacle?

What is the Difference Between Conventional Circuit Breakers and an AFCI?
